Embark DC is a private, captained boat tour operator in Washington DC for small groups (up to 6 guests per boat).
The company was founded in 2015 and has a fleet of two 25-foot sport boats and a 41-foot Bridge (double deck) Cruiser. All tours are fully customizable and available by the hour (1.5 hour minimum for sport boats; 3 hour minimum for the Cruiser). Narrated tours are provided that include historical sights in DC including all the famous monuments on the Potomac River (Pentagon, Jefferson Memorial, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial) plus Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Watergate Hotel and Complex and Georgetown Waterfront.
Tours extend to the Washington Channel, to see the top Army Generals’ homes on the water, National War College, Titanic Memorial and the very popular Wharf Complex. Along the way guests will see where the President’s helicopters operate from, White House Communications complex and world headquarters for the U.S. Coast Guard. Our tours continue south if desired to include Old Town Alexandria, Virginia; National Harbor, Maryland and George Washington’s beautiful estate at Mount Vernon, Virginia. Comfortable seating is in all boats, excellent sound system aboard (use your own playlist or ours!), Bimini cover for midday shade, private lavatory (full head in the Cruiser), soft drinks and water included. You can bring your own beverages and food if you prefer or have it all catered.
Our boats provide a warm and intimate environment for guests and we offer any speed option: either idle quietly by DC’s iconic sights or speed down the Potomac River, or any speed in between. Guests can also opt to lower the anchor and let the afternoon ebb and flow. We even have everything needed for a fishing excursion – the Potomac River is loaded with fish!
We operate from all docks in the DC/MD/VA area and are home-ported at Wharf Marina in SW DC.

Captain Denny Clifford biography:
After his time in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Flight Officer, followed by a career in the airline industry, Captain Denny Clifford turned his love of recreation boating into a 5-star rated commercial tour boat operation in DC.
He founded Embark DC in spring of 2015 to fill a major void along the Potomac River that was missing: there were no boat operators providing narrated historical tours of all the famous monuments and wonderful landmarks…..at least not for small groups (up to 6) such as families, friends, couples, business colleagues, clubs, hobbyists or students.
After taking family and friends out in his sport boat for several years and giving informal tours of DC’s monuments and other landmarks along the way (for free!), friends suggested that it was so much fun and packed with historical information that he should create a business from his experiences. So Denny started Embark DC with one boat (using the original family boat for touring and water skiing), one captain (himself), and one dock (at Georgetown).
After 9 years the company has now grown into a full-fledged, popular boat operation with a fleet of three boats, operates from seven docks from DC to Mount Vernon, and has six captains (who are also the Tour Guides). As Denny says, the best part of the job (other than it being entrepreneurial and exciting to build) is clearly meeting so many wonderful guests from all over the world and offering tours that are second to none in this magnificent world class city, Washington DC.
Many guests ask Denny who was the biggest celebrity he has had in his boats. The answer: multiple Grammy Award winner “Sting”, who was singing on
the boat during his 2 hour tour….see pics in our Gallery at our website
www.EmbarkDC.com. In his free time Denny is a long distance marathon runner and does much traveling. He is very involved and dedicated to building a non-profit
charity organization in the Philippines, focusing on education, elderly
care, and kids and adults with disabilities.
